And the cannon roars

My first brigade is now almost complete. But it lacks something essential especially at the Napoleonic era: a canon! Although artillery units were attached to Army divisions, I do not see myself aligning a brigade without a canon. "L'arme savante" which could be translated by "The scientific weapon", was particulerly used on the battlefield by Napoleon, who was initially a gunner and perfectly measured the importance of this weapon.

So I opted for a piece of 8lb that often accompanies the various divisions. The piece is powered by 3 gunners and an artillery officer, all from Front Rank. The quality of the sculpture of the gun is simply superb!
Although the colors of the photos have all a slight lack of brightness (photos taken late in the day), the frame of the gun has a lack of highlight. I think I'll repaint the frame to improve contrast and get a final green clearer.

Generally Front Rank figures require almost no trim and molding lines are fairly well hidden by the reliefs of the figurine. I realized when the painting was well advanced that I missed a big line of molding on the gunner who carries the powder bags. Whooops! Not very beautiful on pictures but it becomes invisible when seeing down on the table, so...
Now I hesitate to make a second 8 lbs canon or a howitzer. Not yet made my decision, I still have to think about it...

  4. Merci à tous, your comments are always very encouraging for me.

    John,
I currently use a rule named "Au Crépuscule de l'Aigle" based on WAB ruleset. You can find the link to download it here: http://rathelotwargame.forumgratuit.fr/t69-wab-au-crepuscule-de-l-aigle
It's in French but if you know WAB, it can easily be understood.
And of course, I work on my own Napoleonic rule which is 25% complete at the moment. I'll post something about the subject soon. Meanwhile, you can go through the forum and see somme good battle reports...
