Happy New Year

I wish a Happy New Year to all readers of this blog who regularly visit and encourage me to continue. And more generally, a happy new year filled with figurines, games, painting, modeling, ... In short, everything that makes a figure collector/player/painter happy!

I still have lots of plans for this new year;

Lord of the Rings first with the end of the campaign "Rohan in flames", the creation of a new army and may be a small detour to the hobbit.

Then, back on the Napoleonic period with the choice of a rule, the completion of my French army and the creation of my Austrian army.

A little visit into the Second World War with an excellent rule that I've tried a few months ago and the creation of a Soviet army.

And finally, a small change in the layout of the blog, battle reports, tutorials on my paintings, assessments on my reading, etc..

Lots of good things so stay tuned!

---ooOoo---

J'ai encore plein de projets pour cette nouvelle année ;

Rohan in Flames - Turn 9

Look to the East

The dark gods are with the troops of the White Hand that retrieve the initiative on this crucial turn in the development of the campaign. Indeed, Rohan has a very strong front line that extends from the south in Helm's Deep to the north and the forest of Loren. This is more than 2500 points of troops which are able to take 880 points of my Uruks and crush them like a ripe fruit.

And besides, I only recover 100 points of resources. Argh! We cannot find anything to eat. Rohan has practiced a scorched earth policy that begins to seriously affect my troop’s stomach.

My 3rd Army retreated towards Orthanc without reaching it. It therefore remains vulnerable especially with the 2nd and 5th armies of Rohan which are very threatening in the south and also very powerful! My position is critical!

Well, I must take Colnurhim to push the center of Rohan while creating a second front in the east with the army of Mordor and my marauders. I therefore launch my 1st army to attack the village while Orcs attack Dolgar, the city of Rohan located further to the east. Marauders march south towards the lake of Nen Hithoel.

If Eomer's riders should not offer a high resistance in Dolgar face to Orcs, it will not be the case of Rohirrims who are entrenched in Colnurhim and are ready to defend their dearly pink skins!

---ooOoo---

Forests

It's been almost a year since I received my forests from Architects of War and I think it's now time to do a little post on the subject.

I wanted to equip my table game with small woods of different sizes where trees could be removable. GW plastic trees are well made but not realistic enough for my taste. And as I wanted several woods, I did not want it to cost me an arm. After a few researches on Web, I was seduced by the "Woods sets of Architects of War" and I ordered some.

Again, this is not what I could say cheap. And when I removed the first trees from the box, a good part of the flock remained in my hand. Not glop (a french expression meaning not great)! And then, holes diameter on which trees have to be fixed were too big and they did not really match. I'm therefore obliged to fix them up with some Patafix. Not re-glop (again not great!)

Good points now. Trees (once fixed on their base) have a very good look and are quite realistic. Thick and strong bases are superb with a beautiful carving work, very detailed and again realistic. I almost wonder if molds were not made using real pebbles and pieces of real wood. Once painted, the result is stunning and excellent.

"Pretty but fragile" These are the two words that best describe trees and "Beautiful" regarding Architects of War bases. So my overall opinion is positive and I'm sure woods will undoubtedly improve my table game and add a bit of realism. That is all what matters after all.

Here is a picture of a painted wood. I still have 4 to do. I'll try to post a tutorial on how I paint the wood in a near future.

Rohan in Flames - Turn 8 (part III)

Rohan retreat

Turn 8 ends with the withdrawal of the 1st army of Rohan to Colnurhim where it reinforces the 4th Army. I just have to hope that I will get the initiative in the next turn to attack the village before Rohan armies had time to strengthen further.

From a global point of view, I clearly lost the initiative in the campaign where my 1st army will try to take Colnurhim and my 3rd Army is retreating towards Orthanc heels closely by Rohirrims in the south and Ents in the north. In short, the opening of a second front in the east becomes primordial!

---ooOoo---
